Senior Backend Engineer · Yandex / Yango · 2024 – Present
Design, develop, and scale high-load microservice backend systems for an international product, with ownership spanning service architecture, observability, AI integrations, and cross-team feature delivery.
Microservice Development & Scalability
• Designed and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices serving 300,000+ user requests per day.
• Delivered and maintained 5+ production services within an international product portfolio.
• Designed and implemented 10+ RESTful APIs and internal service integrations.
Framework Modernization & CI/CD
• Led backend framework upgrades across 6 services, reducing build and deployment time by ~25%.
• Authored and facilitated 5 Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), establishing architectural governance for the team.
• Conducted cross-domain architectural reviews spanning 3 product domains.
Observability & Incident Management
• Owned observability for the Plus subscription tier across international regions, covering user and business metrics.
• Designed and implemented a monitoring and alerting system covering 20+ critical service metrics.
• Reduced Mean Time to Detect and Resolve (MTTR) by approximately 35–40% through proactive alerting and improved tooling.
• Configured proactive alerts for high-priority user journeys, enabling faster incident detection.
AI Feature Integration
• Integrated AI-powered features into a customer support chat product serving users across 10+ countries.
• Automated user request handling workflows, generating approximately $220,000 USD/year in business cost savings.
• Optimized the backend of an AI narrator feature, reducing request processing latency by ~20%.
Technical Leadership & Cross-functional Delivery
• Served as Feature Lead for 10+ backend initiatives, coordinating development, integrations, and production releases.
• Coordinated successful go-live for 4+ partner integrations.
• Collaborated with 3+ cross-functional teams including backend engineers, ML engineers, product managers, and customer support.
• Led a complex multi-stack partner integration spanning backend, frontend, QA, analytics, and adjacent teams across 3 product domains; delivered on schedule despite unplanned scope changes from the product manager and virtual team restructuring.
Additional Technical Experience
• Developed high-load backend services in Kotlin using Ktor and Koin frameworks.
• Maintained and extended Ruby on Rails services in a polyglot engineering environment.
• Worked with legacy systems and drove incremental migration of functionality to microservice architecture.
