I worked with the team on projects near Ashdod. We were installing 500W Jinko solar panels onto aluminum mounting profiles. The trickiest part was ensuring the string polarity was correct and making sure the MC4 connectors fully seated with a 'click.' If you don't, you risk an electric arc that can destroy the module. Plus, in that 40°C heat, the panels themselves hit 70°C—you can’t even touch them with your bare hands.
I had problems with:
MC4 Connectors: The most common mistake is poor connection. If the connection isn't tight, the Direct Current (DC) creates an electric arc. The temperatures get so high that the aluminum rails can melt in seconds. This is the #1 cause of rooftop solar fires.
DirectCurrent(DC) is Unforgiving: Unlike a standard 220V Alternating Current(AC) wall socket, a string can carry up to 1000V DC. It’s lethal. If you manually break the circuit while it's under load, you'll pull an arc that is nearly impossible to extinguish just by pulling away.
Static & Grounding (Earthing): Israel has very dry air and a lot of dust. If you don't properly ground the frames, you'll get constant static shocks, and the inverter’s sensitive electronics can glitch or fail ("go crazy").
Fragility & Micro-cracks: The most deceptive issue is micro-cracking. If you put your knee on a panel during installation—which is a total 'no-go'—the glass won't break, but the silicon cells inside will crack. These are called micro-cracks. Everything looks fine from the outside, but six months later, that cell will develop a hot spot, overheat, and potentially catch fire
