I was born and raised in Russia, and I do not support the actions of my government. I am against the war in Ukraine and have been since it began. I cannot continue to support a country that chooses this path.
At the same time, I am honest with myself: Russia gave me my education, my professional foundation, and the start of my career. I do not erase that. My entire professional path was built there, and I am grateful for the skills I developed. But gratitude for my past does not mean loyalty to a present that I believe is wrong.
I could not leave earlier. I was afraid, and I had responsibilities — I was caring for my mother, who has no one else. Leaving was not a simple decision; it was something I had to prepare for, emotionally and practically.
I am also a member of the LGBTQ+ community. The situation in Russia has become increasingly dangerous for people like me. I have had to hide who I am for years, and that has taken a toll on my mental health. I am now at a point where I can no longer live in hiding.
I want to bring my skills, my experience, and my work ethic to a country where I can be open about who I am — and where I can contribute without fear. I am not running from responsibility. I am running toward a place where I can finally be honest, work fully, and build something meaningful.
